El Reventón San Gregorio

Tasting notes El Reventón San Gregorio 2023
Red wine Respectful agriculture. 11 meses en barricas y hormigón.
El Reventón San Gregorio 2023 boasts a captivating aromatic profile with notes of fresh red fruits such as cherries and strawberries, complemented by a subtle hint of peppers. On the palate, it is a linear wine that induces a slight salivation. You will discover delicate floral nuances and a pronounced minerality. As it evolves, hints of damp earth become apparent. Its texture is fine and delicate, with vibrant flavours and very fine tannins, culminating in a savoury and almost saline finish.

About El Reventón San Gregorio
Often referred to as the "Messi of wines", Alejandro Vigil consistently astonishes his audience with offerings that invariably exceed expectations. Fifteen years ago, his arrival in the Sierra de Gredos (Spain) marked the beginning of a profound connection with the region, its soils, and particularly with the unique garnacha cultivated there. Enchanted by the landscapes and the immense potential of the area, Alejandro embarked on a venture alongside Adrianna Catena, the youngest daughter of Nicolás Catena Zapata and a Doctor of History from the University of Oxford, and Gearóid Lane, an expert in sustainability.
Under the name El Reventón, they present us with exceptional wines such as this El Reventón San Gregorio, a wine originating from the San Gregorio vineyard, spanning 2.7 hectares and located in the Valle de Iruelas, in Cebreros (Castilla y León), at an altitude ranging from 840 to 940 metres. The garnacha vines, planted between 1920 and 1945 and later in 1970, give rise to a wine of profound character. The soil, arranged on steep slopes and terraces, is predominantly granitic with outcrops of slate. Surrounding herbs and fruit trees contribute complexity and a fruity touch to the wine.
In the winery, the production of El Reventón San Gregorio is a process entirely respectful of nature. Fifty percent of whole clusters are used, fermenting with native yeasts in concrete tanks, while the maceration is slow and extended, without unnecessary movement. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to 500-litre French oak barrels, and then returned to concrete tanks, where it matures for 11 months before bottling.
The result is El Reventón San Gregorio, a wine that perfectly embodies the unique character of the land and the vision of its creators. As Vigil himself says: "Sometimes we fall in love with a landscape to build a dream upon it."
