About Andreas Bender Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett
We all have a reputation for something… The Spanish, for knowing how to enjoy life. The French, for wearing pride as their emblem. The Italians, for being charming... and somewhat chaotic. And the Germans, for being organised, meticulous, even slightly rigid. But fortunately, every rule has its exception. And in the world of wine, that exception is called Andreas Bender.
This winemaker born in Leiwen, in Mosel (Germany) doesn't fit any mould. He is ambitious, self-taught, unconventional, and above all, obsessed with quality. He learned the trade from a young age —with his father among the vineyards— but instead of following the traditional academic route, he chose to forge his own path. Quite literally.
He began in 2010 with just a couple of inherited plots and many clear ideas. Today, he manages carefully selected vineyards in Mosel and the Palatinate, produces vibrant, approachable, soulful Rieslings, and collaborates with winegrowers who adhere strictly to his demanding guidelines.
This is demonstrated in the crafting of Andreas Bender Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett. First, he selects one of the most special vineyards: Ockfener Bockstein. A vineyard renowned for its grey slate soil and natural freshness. There, the Riesling ripens slowly, preserving its lively acidity and developing a delightful aroma. Then, it is hand-harvested, gently pressed, and slowly fermented —without haste or artifice— to achieve a light, mineral, elegant, and slightly sweet wine, in the purest Kabinett style.
The result is Andreas Bender Ockfener Bockstein Kabinett, a white wine that flows with energy, yet retains that serious and sophisticated touch. Like Bender himself: German, yes... but with a free spirit.
