About Andreas Bender Paulessen Riesling Trocken
There are those who go with the flow... and those who stir it up. Andreas Bender undoubtedly belongs to the latter group. This young oenologist from the picturesque village of Leiwen has earned a reputation among his peers as the disruptor of Mosel (Germany), not by being provocative, but by reinventing with purpose. His philosophy challenges the rigid norms of German wine with his distinct style: clarity, precision, freshness... and no artifice.
One of his most representative wines is Andreas Bender Paulessen Riesling Trocken, a dry white that captures the essence of Mosel with a contemporary perspective. The name "Paulessen" is not a commercial whim: it refers to an ancient 17th-century family farm, a symbol of his roots. However, his approach to wine is far from traditional. This is evident in Andreas Bender Paulessen Riesling Trocken.
It all begins in the vineyard. Andreas cultivates 3.5 hectares in Mosel, many with old Riesling vines inherited from his family. This is complemented by collaborations with winegrowers in the Palatinate (Pfalz), who work under his strict guidelines. In both cases, the vineyards are located on steep slopes with slate soils, which impart intensity, tension, and an unmistakable minerality.
In the winery, the rule is clear: intervene as little as possible. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and slowly fermented with native yeasts. Andreas does not seek to manipulate or correct, but to let the wine speak for itself. No embellishments. Just precision, patience, and keen observation.
As a result, Andreas Bender Paulessen Riesling Trocken is a light, direct, and elegant Riesling. A wine that reflects its origin but expresses itself with its own voice. For if there is one thing Andreas, the disruptor of Mosel, is certain of, it is that knowing how to blend authenticity, precision, and soul is enough to create a Riesling with its own voice.
