Zuccardi Mountain Vineyard Malbec

There are quite a few wine regions in Argentina, but Mendoza is by far the largest of them all. Located in the west of the country, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, Mendoza’s winemakers made a qualitative leap in the 1990s when they went from producing simple wines for Argentines to quality wines for export around the world. Among them, José Alberto Zuccardi, an Argentine with Italian roots, created his own brand with a varied and extensive range of quality wines. Today his grandson Sebastián is in charge of carrying the legacy which is a great responsibility, but one that he has managed with skill. He has not only maintained the legacy, but has enhanced it by adding his own concept of working based mainly on exploring the many microclimates and soils in the area and achieving Andean wines with a sense of place. There is good reason he is considered by the prestigious critic Tim Atkin to be one of the ten best winemakers in South America.

His Zuccardi Mountain Vineyard Malbec red wine is a good example of this effort to reflect the typicity of the vineyard. A red Malbec wine whose grapes enjoy the benefits of an altitude of over 1000 metres, a cool, dry climate and a wide range of temperatures throughout the year. In the winery, the grapes are selected and destemmed to undergo alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures. Then 10 to 50% of the wine matures in French oak foudres before bottling.

As the name suggests, Zuccardi Mountain Vineyard Malbec is a red wine born in the mountains. A high-altitude wine that offers an intensity and complexity worthy of enjoying and showing off to the world.
