Wine from Veneto

Veneto is the region of Italy that makes wines within more DOCs than any other. It is located west of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and a third of the region is dominated by mountains. It is the birthplace of the most famous sparkling wine in Italy, Prosecco, which comes from the Valdobbiadene region and is made with the Glera variety, which gives it aromas of white peach, lemon, honeysuckle and vanilla.
The following DOCs are also prominent in the Veneto region:

Soave DOC, a white wine made with the Garganega variety that is dry and flavoursome with a refreshing acidity and subtle fruity aromas.

Bardolino DOC is a red wine made with the same coupage as Valpolicella, which we will look at next. This is usually a lighter style, with good acidity and cherry aromas.

Valpolicella DOC is the second most important DOC in Italy for red wines. These are made with the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara varieties, presented in different styles: DOC Valpolicella Classico, the Amarone Della Valpolicella DOC, which is the most distinguished wine in the region and made with semi-dried grapes, or the Recioto Della Valpolicella DOC, also made with semi-dry grapes with the fermentation stopped to create body and a slight sweetness.
