About Waterkloof White Circle of Life

Drawing inspiration from the cycle of life, where everything that is born must die but not dissipate, instead undergoing transformation, the South African winery Waterkloof Estate leverages its commitment to sustainable and biodynamic farming to craft the Circle of Life series. These wines are not defined by grape variety or a specific plot within the vineyard, but rather encompass the diverse slopes, soils, elevations, and varietals that are found within this unique estate. A true viticultural amphitheater situated at 200-350 meters above sea level, battered by the winds of the Stellenbosch wine region and overlooking False Bay just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean.

Consequently, the winery's youthful and gifted oenologist, Nadie Barnard, produces Waterkloof White Circle of Life with varietals such as chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, and semillon. The vibrant soils, naturally low yields, and an extended growing season all contribute to the provision of high-quality raw materials. Organic grapes are hand-picked and transported to the winery by horses for manual sorting. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, and fermentation for each varietal occurs separately and spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The aging process takes place on primary lees for 10 months in aged 600-liter barrels and stainless steel vats, adding a delicious richness and finesse to the wine before blending.
