Valdespino Rare Spirits Ron Viejo is a profoundly intense and distinctive spirit, boasting a mahogany hue with amber highlights. These attributes hint at the character of this venerable rum, aged for several decades. Consequently, it is not surprising to discern the notes of aged oak and hints reminiscent of oloroso, leading to honey, plum, and spices. On the palate, it is equally complex, with nuances of spices, jam, citrus fruits, and wood. The finish is sweet and smooth, with caramel accents.

From the earliest days, specifically during the colonial era, Valdespino wineries were trading their sherries and brandies in Cuba. And they were never short of customers! One such client was the owner of a small rum distillery to whom they supplied not only their spirits but also their Jerez casks. In 1940, a selection of these casks containing very old rum arrived in Spain directly from the warehouse of this modest proprietor and was reserved exclusively for the family consumption of the Valdespino clan. Today, Valdespino shares this gem under the name of Valdespino Rare Spirits Ron Viejo.

With an average age of over 20 years, Valdespino Rare Spirits Ron Viejo stands as one of the most intriguing and rare spirits. Who would have thought that you would be sipping a rum straight from the south of Andalucía? More commonly associated with Caribbean lands, or even the Canary Islands (in its honeyed variant), rum is an unusual beverage for Jerez de la Frontera (far more renowned for its invaluable fortified wines).
