About Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature
As Coco Chanel herself said “Fashion changes, style remains.” There are classics that will always be a success, like Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature, one of the most classic sparkling wines of the Torelló wineries that is aged for more than 60 months.
When we talk about Torelló, we’re not just talking about one of the great producers of bubbles in Spain, a benchmark that has been making sparkling wines since the 14th century in Gelida, in the Alto Penedés (Barcelona). We’re also talking about a company with one of the strongest commitments to the industry’s future thanks to their strong commitment as one of the founders of Corpinnat (a collective brand that other large wineries in the area also belong to, whose purpose is to highlight the great sparkling wines made in the heart of the Penedés region). Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature is a classic sparkling wine that, despite its traditional character, has managed to surprise the best palates in the world, winning the Gold Medal at the Decanter Wine Awards in 2022.
However, for the branches of a tree to reach far and wide, it needs strong and deep roots. For Torelló, this strong base is found in its history and in Can Martí, a 137-hectare estate that grows on clay-limestone soils. Of these, 80 hectares are organically cultivated to grow 11 different varieties, including Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada, which are used to make the Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature coupage. This last detail, the one about organic cultivation, is very important, because total respect for the fruit and the land is one of the essential requirements that Corpinnat strongly defends. Only in this way, avoiding the use of chemical products and using others of natural origin, can the supreme quality of sparkling wines be guaranteed.
Another of Corpinnat’s conditions is full in-house production. This is also the case at Torelló. Their Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature begins in the vineyard itself, with manual harvesting, in 25 kg boxes, where the aim is to protect the condition of the grapes at all times. So, very carefully and without crushing, the bunches arrive whole at the winery and pass over a sorting table. All varieties will be worked separately and gently crushed. From the press, which uses Inertys technology (to avoid oxidation), the musts ferment in stainless steel tanks and are then blended and bottled, ready for secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Here, Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature spends a minimum of 60 months with its corresponding poignettage (shaking in the bottle), where the yeasts mix with the wine. Finally, Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature is manually clarified in racks, disgorged and bottled again without adding any sugars. The best choice for those who love dry sparkling wines in their most classic form.

2016 | Torelló Tradicional Brut Nature 2016 is a creamy sparkling wine that nevertheless surprises with its freshness. Straw-coloured with yellow highlights and clean and transparent, it stands out for its fine and constant bubbles. The nose reveals white fruit (pear) combined with caramel custard and pastry cream. The palate is dry, with hints of fresh herbs and white flowers. Very pleasant finish. |

This time in the bottle, with its second fermentation, translates into powerful and appealing flavours, with good acidity and a very fine, well-integrated bubble. The nose is floral, fruity and very expressive, with hints of dried fruits and toasted bread. |
