About Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo

There is no salt without lime, no tequila without Mexico. This drink, made by distilling the fermented must of the blue agave, has become one of the main symbols this North American country presents itself to the world with. Burritos, mariachi and caballitos de tequila (the name the locals use to describe the little glasses of tequila) are the way many people get to know this culture. If that’s true, what could be better than making the best possible impression?

They manage to do this wonderfully at Clase Azul, a tequila producing company that has been trying to “share the magic of Mexican culture with the world” for 25 years. Their way of doing it? Wonderful tequilas, aged for several years and bottled in true handmade works of art. The jewel in their crown is Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo.

Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo is a tequila that has been produced for 14 years. Its story begins in Los Altos de Jalisco, in Jalisco, where the blue agave plants have matured for a minimum of 9 years. After this time, the plant’s cores bake for about 72 hours in brick ovens, extracting the sugars needed to make the must and bring about alcoholic fermentation. The whole process is totally secret, using patented yeasts, and this ritual results in the unique touch that makes this drink so special. The double distillation in copper stills puts the finishing touch to this masterpiece. As explained by Clase Azul, “time is essential when it comes to making tequilas with more complex profiles”, so the aging process is key in Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo.

Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo spends a minimum of five years in American whiskey casks and sherry butts. Finally, a handmade luxury bottle (made with silver, platinum and gold) adds the finishing touch to Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo. Different artisans are in charge of hand-painting the Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Añejo bottle with a metallic paint that can only be seen after baking. The method used by these artists is platinum feathering, a very difficult technique where closely spaced parallel lines are drawn. A 24-carat gold label is the final detail of this work of art.
