About Ramilo Colares Ramisco

Taking the reins of a family project is never easy. Especially when the region where that legacy grew seems to have been left behind. When the father of the Ramilo family suggested to his sons, Pedro and Nuno, that they take over the winery, they agreed. But on one condition: they would do it their way.

And their way was to look towards where few dared: Colares (Portugal), one of the smallest—and most unique—denominations in Europe. There, where pre-phylloxera vines still cling to the sand just metres from the Atlantic, shaped by the wind and salt. There, where making wine is an act of defiance.

Ramilo Colares Ramisco is a wine that marks the beginning of a new era for the Ramilo family. A rediscovery of the DOC Colares from a contemporary perspective, without losing an ounce of respect for its roots.

Biodynamic, artisanal and uncompromising, the ramisco grapes are grown using biodynamic practices and harvested by hand. In the winery, they ferment in traditional lagares, with foot treading and no added yeasts. Then, the wine rests for three years in French oak barrels, refining its identity.

The result is Ramilo Colares Ramisco, an austere, elegant, and vibrant red, with a salinity that can only come from the sea. A genuine Colares, with the personal hallmark of the Ramilo family.

2020
