About Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino
Every wine tells a tale, and the narrative behind Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino is rich enough to fill volumes: a landscape without parallel, a venerable tradition... There's even a chapter involving the British Royal Family!
Originating from Siena, in the heart of Tuscany, comes Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino, a red wine of global acclaim and prestige. It was in the 17th century that this wine, characteristic of the village of Montalcino, ventured beyond central Italy to captivate the entire world. Today, many producers, including Poggio Landi, continue to champion this craft, encapsulating centuries of tradition and history. Only the finest vineyards, scattered across various areas of the village, yield Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino. The estate is situated in the most esteemed regions, at altitudes ranging from 174 to 500 meters, where a diverse tapestry of soils including limestone, marl, and stone converge. The climate here tends towards the Mediterranean, predominantly warm and arid, with sparse rainfall mainly confined to spring and autumn. This results in highly concentrated and well-balanced grape clusters, with ample sugar content (to achieve the desired alcohol levels) and tannins (to lend structure to the wine). Generally, the sangiovese grapes, the traditional variety used for D.O.C.G Brunello di Montalcino wines, are robust and full-bodied, producing well-structured wines.
In the cellars, Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino is vinified in a time-honored manner, utilizing indigenous yeasts and natural fermentations. Following fermentation, which occurs in stainless steel vats, Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino is racked and transferred to French oak barrels where it will mature for approximately 38 months. This aging process is crucial for these wines, particularly for Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino, as regulations mandate a minimum of 24 months in wood and an additional six months in the bottle. Poggio Landi Brunello di Montalcino not only meets these requirements but exceeds them, concluding its journey with an additional six months of bottle aging, which can be extended further (should the consumer desire...).
