Plácet de Valtomelloso is a single-variety Viura white wine produced by the Palacios Remondo winery in the D.O C. Rioja in Alfaro, Spain.
The grapes used to make the Plácet de Valtomelloso wine come from the La Montesa estate with predominantly calcium soils and vines aged around 30 years old. They are cultivated using the principles of ecological agriculture and lie on a long, gentle slope on Mount Yerga.
The harvest is carried out manually with a strict selection process. When the grapes reach the winery, they are partially destemmed and gently pressed to begin alcoholic fermentation in oval foudres, at low temperatures and with native yeasts. The resulting wine ages in oval oak tanks for around 10 months, depending on the vintage.
Renowned and admired winemaker Álvaro Palacios has a gift for interpreting the landscape and extracting the best from each of the varieties in the vineyards he works. Plácet de Valtomelloso is the only white wine he produces. It is just as delicate as his other wines and made with the same care that go into his renowned reds. This Viura (Macabeo) is meaty and elegant, gastronomic and distinctive. Not to be missed!
The new and latest stage of Álvaro Palacios as the lead of the family-run winery. As an outspoken advocate of the concept of cru wines, he has turned the land and the vineyard into the identity mark of the wines of Palacios Remondo and into the business success of the winery. Since he joined the family winery in 2000 along with his sister Chelo, and with a renewed significance of the current vineyard they own, the style of the wines of Palacios Remondo has been noticeably transformed in a few years. Mainly with the objective of giving greater importance to the local variety, the Red Grenache.
