About Picchioni Arfena 2021

The DOC Oltrepò Pavese, like all appellations of origin, adheres to stringent regulations governing vine cultivation, vinification, and quality standards, all with the aim of safeguarding the authenticity and prestige of its wines. However, when these regulations are combined with the Slow Wine philosophy, a movement that champions environmental sustainability and cultural and social growth in vineyards, we witness an exemplary showcase of the finest offerings from Lombardy. In this vein, Andrea Picchioni presents his collection of authentic and vibrant wines, which truly reflect the distinctive character of the region.


An example of this meticulous craft is found in Picchioni Arfena, a single-varietal Pinot Noir that thrives on steep, sandy-gravel terrain, cultivated with ecological principles and hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are carefully selected, destemmed, and gently crushed. The must then macerates with the skins for 15 days, fermenting in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels. After bottling, the wine matures for at least 8 months before its release to the market.

As a result, Picchioni Arfena is more than merely a wine; it is the embodiment of a meticulous artisanal process that captures the very essence of the Lombardy region. A lucid representation of the delights that originate and are crafted in the DOC Oltrepò Pavese, observed through the Slow Wine lens.

Picchioni Arfena 2021 unveils itself in a captivating light yet dense red hue. Upon olfaction, a complex bouquet of roses unfurls, interwoven with nuances of ripe red fruits such as cherries and strawberries. On the palate, this Italian wine astonishes with its balance and harmony, delivering a fruity and spiced experience with a silky and voluptuous texture. The finish is lingering, concluding with a reverberation of the floral notes that define it.
