About Perelada Finca Espolla

Just on the edge of the Pyrenees, at the foot of the Sierra de Les Alberes, lies Finca Espolla, a particularly special 21-hectare plot distinguished by its slatey, acidic, black soils, where a smooth and flavoursome red wine is born: Perelada Finca Espolla. "The black slate enhances the fresh, balsamic, and amiable character of this wine," asserts Delfí Sanahuja, Peralada's chief winemaker. We wholeheartedly endorse every one of his words.
 
With over a century of history, Peralada remains a winery that any true wine aficionado must experience at least once in a lifetime, as the saying goes. And not just for its taste, but for the sheer pleasure and satisfaction of savouring a well-crafted wine, made with mindfulness and quality, always striving for the best outcome. In the case of Perelada Finca Espolla, the grapes are handpicked, carefully selected, and brought to the winery, where they are destemmed and crushed. Once processed, Perelada Finca Espolla is placed in vats and allowed to macerate for an extended period until the moment of alcoholic fermentation arrives. This process, conducted by indigenous yeasts, is carefully temperature-controlled at approximately 25ºC. Finally, Perelada Finca Espolla is removed from the vats, pressed, and left to age for several months before being bottled.

Perelada Finca Espolla 2020 unfurls with a bouquet of ripe black fruit such as plums and blackberries, interwoven with spicy nuances reminiscent of pepper. On the palate, its maturity is expressed in opulent and velvety flavors, while a delicate mineral streak provides vivacity and complexity. This red wine exhibits a harmonious concentration, with supple tannins that render each sip genial and inviting.
 
2016

Perelada Finca Espolla 2016 is an intense red wine boasting an aromatic bouquet of red fruit, balsamic hints, and mineral undertones. On the palate, it is articulate, profound, and harmonious. This wine features polished tannins, a vibrant acidity, and a prolonged, sophisticated finish.

2010 Smooth and round on the palate, as well as persistent and expressive. Its acidity adds a lively and refreshing touch.

Ruby red colour, high robe.

Intense aroma with balsamic notes, Mediterranean flowers, fruits and minerals. 
2009 Soft attack and silky mid-palate marked by a very refreshing acidity and a great and sweet load of fruit. Long finish, with subtle and pleasant bitter notes, pretty persistent.

Dark, intense and very bright ruby red colour. Dense and slow-falling slightly coloured tear.

Clean high intensity nose which comes off mineral, floral and balsamic reminiscences surrounded by juicy ripe back fruit. Little by little, it gains nuances: slight spiced notes, aromatic herbs and subtle toasted hints.
2008 Very large, very expressive, very wide and embracing wine. This powerful and at the same time light wine, with a silky, fleshy and fresh mid palate, coats the mouth with notes of very mellow ripe fruit and a expressive minerality. Its excellent acidity gives liveliness and freshness to the wine. It shows rich tannins and a long and lingering finish that leaves spicy sensations. An elegant and very tasty complex but easy-drinking wine.

Intense dark and very bright maroon cherry colour with purple edges. Dense tear that stain the glass.

Very intense and powerful aromas. On first nosing, its intense and juicy notes of ripe black fruit are noticed with some spicy touch. When it opens up, a wide range of aromas is displayed mixed with the fruit and providing it with lots of nuances. Hot spices, black olives, coffee, tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, smoky and creamy notes, fresh balsamic aromas and some subtle floral hints are noticed. There is also a constant touch of a deep minerality that gains in intensity over the time.
2007 The mouthfeel is smooth while persistent and expressive. The acidity gives it a feeling lively and refreshing. It is a wine with a strong personality of the land it comes from.
