About Pere Mata Cuvee Barcelona
Either because of its proximity to the capital of Cava, or because of its Mediterranean character, the world of this type of sparkling wine has often been linked to the Barcelona brand. Proof of this can be found in Pere Mata Cuvee Barcelona, a Cava whose label names the city of Barcelona and adorns it with the curves and mosaics of the world-famous architect Antoni Gaudí.
This is how Pere Mata, an oenologist whose Mata i Coloma estate has 5 hectares in the town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in the heart of Penedès (Catalonia), chooses to pay homage to one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Mediterranean. Barcelona is unique and so are its sparkling wines.
Pere Mata Cuvee Barcelona is the result of a coupage of the three classic varieties of D.O. Cava: Xarel-lo, Macabeo and Parellada. Grapes from vines planted in slate, quartz and anthracite soils which are first vinified in stainless steel and then undergo a second fermentation in the bottle following the traditional method with 5 years of ageing.
