About Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz

Penfolds is currently one of the largest exporters of Australian wine. A winery with more than 175 years of history that, unlike European projects that focus on a single terroir, has become known for their philosophy of creating multi-regional blends. A way of working that involves blending different growing areas with the aim of producing wines with greater complexity and a bit of continuity between the different vintages.

Among the wide range of wines this winery is known for, Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz highlights the great mastery the winery has of the Syrah variety. This wine was first made in 1959 with grapes from the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard in South Australia and stored in BIN (Batch Identification Number) number 28. And that is where the name comes from.

Now, Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz comes from a blend of multiple regions and vineyards, with the Barossa Valley as the star of the show. This Syrah is cultivated using respectful agriculture and when the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested and immediately taken to the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and then the wine is transferred to French and American oak barrels where it remains for 18 months. Finally it is bottled and rests for a while before being released for sale.

2019

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2019 is a robust red wine brimming with aromas of dark and red berries, complemented by hints of vanilla and nuances of chocolate. On the palate, it is luscious, silky, and refined. This wine features a pronounced acidity, velvety tannins, and a prolonged, lingering finish.
2018

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz 2018 is a concentrated red wine with an expressive bouquet of ripe blackberry aromas, notes of black olives and subtle hints of tobacco and spice. On the palate it is mature, robust and very generous. A medium-bodied wine with fine acidity beautifully balanced with good tannins. The finish is long, fine and rounded.
