About Pedro Parra y Familia Trane

Pedro Parra y Familia Trane is an ecological, cement-aged red wine made by Pedro Parra with the Cinsault variety in the Itata Valley, in Chile’s Southern Wine Region. 

 
After working as a consultant in different wineries around the world, Pedro Parra returned home to the city of Concepción to make his dream come true: making his own wines in spectacular granite terroirs. His meticulous and sustainable work has made him a pioneer, and now affectionately known as “Señor Terroir”, many people consider him to be the pioneer of the “Nuevo Chile” winemaking movement.
 
Pedro Parra y Familia Trane comes from vines aged over 70 years old that are planted on granite and schist soils. This is an exceptional and shallow terroir, and using organic agriculture, Pedro seeks to extract its maximum expression in the wine. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested. 
 
With a soil this pure and such old vines Pedro Parra y Familia Trane is produced with minimal intervention. Firstly, spontaneous fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Then the wine ages for 11 months in 15 hl untoasted oak barrels.
 
Named after the legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, Pedro Parra y Familia Trane is made through a combination of old vines and minimal intervention winemaking. Pure granite expression.
