About Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano 2019
Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano is a red wine made with the Cinsault variety by Pedro Parra y Familia in Chile’s Southern Wine Region, within the Itata Valley denomination.
Having worked for a long time as a terroir consultant in Chile, Argentina, USA, , Italy, Canada, France, Spain and Armenia, Pedro Parra returned home to Concepción to set up his own winery. This winery produces pure terroir wines from granite soils and, through Pedro’s work, he has become known as the pioneer of the “New Chile” movement, and is affectionately known as “Señor Terroir”.
Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano comes from vines planted on granite soils. These are old vines aged between 60 and 110 years old that are cultivated using ecological methods and no chemical products that could damage the natural balance of the terroir. The vines are influenced by the fresh coastal winds and the grapes are manually harvested at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the grapes are selected to make the Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano wine and are crushed ready to ferment with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 12 months in untoasted French oak barrels before being bottled.
Pencopolitano means citizen of Concepción, capital of the Itata Valley and the hometown of “Señor Terroir”. And this is the name given to his Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano wine, a tribute to his birthplace and the home of his wines.
Pedro Parra y Familia P Pencopolitano 2018 is a very low production, smooth red wine that reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, floral notes and earthy, spicy and toasted touches. On the palate it is light, enveloping and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with firm tannins and good volume. The finish is a salty explosion on the senses.
