About Ormanni Borro Del Diavolo Chianti Classico Riserva
Dante Alighieri, the renowned Italian poet, philosopher, and politician, is widely celebrated for his magnum opus, "The Divine Comedy." This epic poem, one of the treasures of world literature, narrates the allegorical journey of the author through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Paradise (Paradiso), exploring profound themes of spirituality and redemption. In his monumental work, Dante not only provides a vision of the afterlife but also delivers a sharp critique of Florentine society of his time, depicting its most influential families. Among them, the Ormanni family is mentioned in Canto X of the Inferno, where the Florentine nobles suffer the consequences of their sins and vices. Today, the Ormanni name remains prominent in the wine world, with a renowned winery in the DOCG Chianti. Dante's reference to the family not only underscores their historical significance in the 14th century but also adds a fascinating dimension to their legacy and the prestige of Chianti.
One of their creations, Ormanni Borro Del Diavolo Chianti Classico Riserva, is a DOCG Chianti Classico whose grapes come from the “Borro del Diavolo” vineyard (named after the Borro stream that flows through Tuscany) near the Florentine town of Barberino Val d'Elsa. Sangiovese vines aged between 25 and 50 years, planted in clay and limestone soil, at about 820-1050 feet above sea level. The vineyard is organically farmed, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal ripeness. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in steel with a fermentation lasting 20 days. Afterwards, the wine ages for approximately 20 months in barrels.
With a profound connection between Dante's rich literary tradition and the historic wine heritage of Chianti, the Ormanni Borro Del Diavolo Chianti Classico Riserva stands as a true testament to the excellence of this region. A celebration of tradition and craftsmanship.
