About Niepoort Batuta
Niepoort Batuta is a red wine coupage made with Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Malvazia Preta and other varieties in the DOC Douro made by Niepoort.
The Niepoort family has been making Port wines since 1842. For years, Niepoort has worked with Noriega to make their wines. Since the very beginning, the winery has worked to unite tradition with modernity. They use traditional Portuguese techniques such as grape treading, fermentation in cement deposits or aging in pipes, 550-litre port aging barrels, and at the same time they use new technologies that allow them to take great care with the grapes. They have vines in different locations, some of which are over 100 years old, and their aging room Serpa Pinta in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The main Niepoort Batuta vineyard, near Quinta do Carril, faces north with vines over 70 years old and there is another smaller plot with strains of about 100 years old near Quinta de Nápoles. They measure between 350 and 750 metres with shale soils. The grapes are harvested manually to make sure the fruit is fully respected.
The Niepoort Batuta vintage is selected in the field and only the best clusters are taken to the winery to ferment. It is vinified in stainless steel tanks macerating for a long time with the skins but with gentle extractions and staying in contact with the skins for about 60 days. Finally, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for 22 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
Niepoort Batuta is a wine that was first launched in 1999. It is an elegant and powerful Douro wine with great aging potential.
2023 | Niepoort Batuta 2023 is a deep garnet red wine. On the nose, it presents a remarkable intensity with aromas of strawberries, cherries, mint leaves, Indian ink, and graphite. On the palate, it is juicy and precise, with substantial volume and tannins that envelop the entire tongue. Its concentrated profile makes it an intriguing choice for those seeking a wine with character and depth. |
|
2016 | Niepoort Batuta 2016 is a deep and concentrated wine, a little more so than other vintages. On the nose it offers aromas of berries as well as delicate floral nuances and a mineral character underlined by a touch of oak. On the palate it is distinguished and elegant with an acidity that rests on a firm structure of tannins. The end is long, elegant and seductive. | |
2015 | Niepoort Batuta 2015 is the most elegant and light Batuta vintage. It offers austere aromas of forest fruits in perfect harmony with the wine’s minerality. Its time spent in the barrel gives it light touches of wood and spicy nuances. On the palate it is complex, silky, with plenty of vigor and tension, but it is also subtle with a good balance of concentration and acidity. |
