Tasting notes Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2009

Other sparkling wines Brut Nature. 12 months on lees in the barrel and 30 months in bottle.

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva 2009 is a dry sparkling wine (with less than 3 g/l of residual sugar), which demands a leisurely and thorough tasting experience. It is, in essence, a complex effervescent wine, brimming with subtleties that gradually unveil themselves as it breathes in the glass. Initially, it presents a radiant golden hue, complemented by exceedingly delicate bubbles that are barely perceptible, yet provide a refined and pleasant sensation on the palate. The olfactory journey continues with aromatic layers of patisserie, cocoa, dried fruits, raisins, and fig bread. On the palate, it is creamy and sophisticated, with hints of brioche, roasted nuances, and subtle milky undertones. The finish is extensive and lingering.

About Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva

From inception to culmination, patience stands as a hallmark of Mestres, the Catalan cellars renowned for the production of sparkling wines within the prestigious D.O. Cava, noted for the protracted maturation period of their bottles.

At the heart of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, situated in the town's main square, the venerable cellars of this firm zealously safeguard the repose of their wines: from the compulsory minimum of 42 months to the staggering 14 years that Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva slumbers. What multitude of events might transpire over those months? How much can life fluctuate in such a span? Regardless of the twists fate may have in store, there's nothing that can't be endured with a glass of this twice-fermented sparkling wine (initially in barrel and subsequently in bottle), crafted exclusively in the most exceptional vintages.

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva originates from the vineyard of the same name on the estate that lends its name to this gem. Generally, these are venerable vines, over 50 years old, cultivated between 200 and 225 meters above sea level. Throughout the Mestres estate, a diverse range of soils can be observed, intermingling across its expanse. Here, the climate is Mediterranean, characterized by rainy winters and autumns, and exceedingly dry summers.

Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva is harvested and taken to the cellar where the grapes are processed and pressed for fermentation. At Mestres cellars, this initial stage is conducted in chestnut barrels, where Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva will spend approximately 12 months. Thereafter, the wine is bottled, sealed with a natural cork stopper, and left to rest in the bottle for around 140 months. During these years, ample time is available for the second fermentation in the bottle, culminating its process and descending to the bottom, settling as lees. Here, the riddling becomes crucial, with the bottles positioned horizontally (a practice known as "sur lattes"), a process that endows body and structure.

Once the time has elapsed, Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva undergoes manual disgorging in the most traditional manner and is then released for sale. If time could be imbibed, it would undoubtedly be in a bottle of Mestres Clos Damiana Brut Nature Gran Reserva.

Mestres Clos Damiana 2007 is a dry sparkling wine (containing less than 3 g/l of sugar), mature, with a radiant golden hue. Exceptionally expressive, the bouquet is intricate, featuring a symphony of scents ranging from yeast and bakery notes to beeswax, honey, apple, and ripe stone fruits (peach, apricot). On the palate, it is seamless and refined, with hints of nuts (walnuts, almonds), wood, a creamy texture, and subtle mineral undertones. The finish is slightly bitter, accompanied by tiny, delicate bubbles that are almost imperceptible.
