About Mendall Alicia Capablanca

Sofia Coppola, offspring of the legendary film director Francis Ford Coppola, has followed in her father's directorial footsteps and, despite the intense societal pressure accompanied by inane comparisons, has indeed established herself as a successful director, even clinching an Academy Award for "Lost in Translation". Similarly, Alicia Serres, progeny of the natural wine virtuoso Laureano Serres Montagut, has emerged as his most distinguished protégée, which is evident through her own creations crafted at her father's winery Mendall located in the municipality of Pinell de Brai, in Terra Alta, Catalonia. These are wines of minimal intervention that, adhering to her father's principles, showcase the most genuine expression of the grape and its terroir.

In this vein, we are introduced to Mendall Alicia Capablanca, an orange wine produced with Garnacha and Macabeo grapes, originating from vines aged 6 years, planted in clay-limestone soil at an elevation of 512 meters. Organic practices are followed in accordance with biodynamic guidelines, and the harvest is manually conducted at the peak of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes undergo a 21-day maceration, and fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, where the wine is left on its lees for 6 months. It is then bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.

With the perfect amalgamation of genetic lineage and wisdom handed down from father to daughter, Mendall Alicia Capablanca stands out as an exceptional orange wine, boasting a striking intensity and sublime precision. A daring uniqueness that is a true triumph of Terra Alta.
