Menade Nossa

Clandestino de Menade is a natural red wine made with the Tempranillo (Tinta de Toro) variety by Bodegas Menade in the V.T. Castilla-León.

Bodegas Menade started out in 2005 when siblings Alejandra, Marco and Richard decided to follow in the winemaking footsteps of their ancestors, who have been growing vines since 1820 in areas now part of the D.O. Rueda. All wines are made in the “Menade by Secala”, an underground cellar excavated in rock that has been preserved with its original nineteenth century architecture. As a result, the wines are original and made with respect for nature and a commitment to tradition.

Starting with natural methods in the vineyard, they substitute chemical treatments for what they call their “Great insect hotel”. An ecosystem where 40 native species coexist to help safeguard the natural balance of the strain. The Clandestino de Menade vineyards are pre-phylloxera, over 100 years old, located in the area of Toro and planted in glass. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.

Alcoholic fermentation and maceration of Clandestino de Menade is carried out in small stainless steel tanks for between 12 and 25 days. Malolactic fermentation then takes place spontaneously with native yeasts. It is clarified with vegetable origin gelatin and undergoes cold stabilisation. It is then filtered with natural cellulose.

Clandestino de Menade is a fresh, natural and fruity red wine, with no additives, which helps maintain the natural properties of the grape.
