About Matías Riccitelli Old Vines Torrontes from Patagonia

Getting out of the house and exploring the world allows us to see the different perspectives, cultures and realities that exist outside our own home. By interacting with new people, places and experiences, we can broaden our minds, grow in empathy and acquire new knowledge. Matias Riccitelli, son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli, trained with his father and then decided to leave his native Argentina to harvest in other wine regions and to work in large wineries around the world. He gained all of this experience, and then in 2009, he had the courage to set up his own project in the highest area of the traditional Luján de Cuyo (1100 metres above sea level), in Mendoza, called Riccitelli Wines. Proud of the results, he was encouraged to start work in new areas and in 2015 he set up a new project bringing new life to old vineyards in Patagonia.

This newest project, located in Patagonia, is where he makes his Old Vines range. A collection of wines from low-yielding vines planted in the late 1960s at the foot of the Rio Negro, approximately halfway between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Matías Riccitelli Old Vines Torrontes from Patagonia is a single-variety Torrontés planted on loamy soils that are grown naturally following organic principles and harvested by hand in 20 kg boxes. Lying at 39° south latitude, the sun exposure is very intense, but this is compensated by the low night temperatures. Fermentation is carried out on skins with native yeasts in clay amphorae at temperatures between 16º and 18ºC for several weeks and then the wine is aged in the same amphorae for 8 months.

With the aim of expressing the full potential of the Argentine terroir, Matías presents Matías Riccitelli Old Vines Torrontes from Patagonia. A wine that highlights the value of southern wines and is the result of all he learned from his mentor and travelling around the world.
