If there is one thing that Ernest Pérez-Mas relishes, it is challenges. As the president and founder of Parlem Telecom, the Catalan operator that champions proximity in the digital world, he is not someone who settles for the easy route. Thus, when he decided to venture into the world of wine in 2014, he did not seek just any vineyard or conventional variety. His approach was, as he himself confesses, a blend of intuition, childhood memories, and a generous dose of romanticism.
This is how Mascorrubí came into being, a winemaking project situated in Pla de Manlleu, in the highest heart of the Penedès. An estate over 500 metres above sea level, with clay-limestone soils, where the vines grow patiently, the wind blows vigorously, and the wine is crafted without haste.
The star of this narrative is an almost secret variety: the montònega, also known as parellada de montaña. Although related to the classic parellada, its cultivation in high-altitude areas bestows it with a completely distinct character. Smaller berries, thicker skin, slow ripening, and a natural freshness that makes it perfect for the wines of today... and the future.
In a context marked by climate change and the need to revive varieties with identity, the montònega shines with its own light. Cultivated organically and harvested by hand, this grape is the heart of many of Mascorrubí's wines.
But the montònega does not travel alone. In Mascorrubí Teulera, it is combined with garnacha blanca from vines over 30 years old. A fusion that brings body, structure, and creaminess, without losing the freshness that altitude and terroir impart to each bottle.
The vinification process is as meticulous as it is artisanal: pre-maceration in cold for 8 hours at 15°C, slow fermentation at a maximum of 16°C, and ageing on lees in tanks, to preserve the texture, aroma, and that natural elegance that defines these high-altitude wines.
Mascorrubí Teulera is a wine with character, elevation, and abundant personality, designed to meet the challenges of the future. A white mountain gem born from a profound respect for the land and the courage of those who strive to recover and enhance our most authentic roots.
