About Mas Coutelou Sauvé de la Citerne

Nervous? Acid reflux? Headaches? If you suffer from these symptoms Jeff Coutelou suggests trying his wines. A staunch advocate of sulphite-free wines, since he has been in charge of the family winery he has decided to work without chemicals and to treat his vines with biodynamic remedies only when necessary. He is also moving from 20 hectares of vineyards to 13 hectares in order to limit production and have better control of the vines. The results are surprising. As he explains, he makes “happy wines from vineyards cultivated with love and good humour”.

Mas Coutelou Sauvé de la Citerne perfectly reflects the vitality and joy of the winemaker. A wine that, like the rest of the range, was born in the village of Puimisson, in Languedoc (France). It is made with Cinsault, Syrah and Garnacha vines that have been certified as organic since 1987. Planted on varied, predominantly clay-limestone terroirs, these vines enjoy a Mediterranean climate with the breeze and humidity of the sea. In the Mas Coutelou winery, winemaking is minimalist with the intention of maintaining maximum freshness and balance in the wine. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts and aging happens slowly so that it has time to express itself. Finally, the wine is bottled by gravity, without clarifying, filtering and limiting the sulphur content as much as possible.
