About Mariotti Smarazen

Smarazen, also known as Italian broom, is one of the most popular card games in Italy. A game that calls for friendship, peace and enjoying the moment, just like when you open a bottle of wine. Using this as inspiration, Mirco Mariotti, a winegrower based in Bosco Eliceo (Emilia-Romagna), has created Mariotti Smarazen, a farmer pét nat that is delicious and unpretentious.

Made from vines that grow just 300 metres from the Adriatic Sea on deep sandy soils, Mariotti Smarazen is made from the Malvasia di Candia Aromatica and Trebbiano varieties. These vines are aged between 50 and 100 years old and are harvested strictly by hand and gently pressed at the same time. Fermentation lasts about 2 weeks and the wine is kept in cement tanks for 60 days. Afterwards, the wine is put in the bottle without clarifying or filtering, and there it begins a second fermentation without removing the lees. Finally, the wine ages in the bottle for 4 or 5 months before being released for sale.
