About M. Chapoutier Gigondas Les Jocasses

M. Chapoutier Gigondas Les Jocasses is a red wine blend predominantly composed of Grenache Noir, with Syrah and Mourvèdre. It is crafted by the winery Maison Chapoutier and is produced under the AOC Gigondas, in the Rhône Valley.

Michel Chapoutier is a family-run winery with a long-standing tradition, established in 1808, that operates based on biodynamic principles, producing wines that have garnered high scores from critics.

The vineyards from which the grapes for M. Chapoutier Gigondas Les Jocasses are sourced have the characteristic soils of the appellation: calcareous sandstone soils with ancient pebbles. They are located between Orange and Mont Ventoux, on the eastern bank of the Rhône.

The harvest of M. Chapoutier Gigondas Les Jocasses is conducted manually when the grapes are fully ripe. Once at the winery, the grapes are destemmed, and the alcoholic fermentation and maceration period last for three weeks. During fermentation, two pump-overs are performed daily to extract more color and soft tannins from the skins. Finally, a portion of the wine is aged in small oak barrels for 12-16 months, while the remainder stays in vats.

M. Chapoutier Gigondas Les Jocasses is a wine that balances power and finesse, fruits and spices.

2017 M. Chapoutier Gigondas 2017 reveals a mixture of herbs and red fruit on the nose. On the palate it has a floral attack followed by certain flavours of red cherry and raspberry. Its tannins wrap the mouth well, and it has a lingering aftertaste and smoky touches. The fact that the wine will be long-lived is appreciated.
