About Louis-Antoine Luyt Pipeño Coronel

Fed up with living in France, Louis-Antoine Luyt went on holiday to South America to perfect his Spanish. And although he initially planned a 3-month trip, he fell in love with this continent so much that he decided to stay and live there. After making a living as a dishwasher in a local restaurant, he worked his way up the ladder to become a great sommelier. After delving into the wines of Chile, he realised that they were all pretty much the same and a bit boring. So, taking the winemaking knowledge he had acquired in Burgundy as a starting point, he decided to make a wine with a unique personality in the Southern wine region.

One of his newest projects is the Pipeño range, a name inspired by the derogatory slang used for Chilean peasant wine. His Louis-Antoine Luyt Pipeño Coronel is a single-variety País wine planted on clay-granitic soils that are rich in iron and quartz and organically cultivated. The grapes are harvested and destemmed by hand and fermented naturally without additives in open oak barrels. The wine is then aged, partly in wooden barrels, partly in stainless steel tanks and finally in clay jars. Finally, it is bottled with a light filtering and sulphuring to ensure safe transport to other countries.

Made in the Biobío wine region, Louis-Antoine Luyt Pipeño Coronel is a red wine sold in a one-litre bottle that honours the light, easy-drinking style that is typical of the wine that the peasants produced for everyday consumption.
