About López Cristóbal Albillo
Who better to make a wine than the winegrower who grew the grapes himself! Santiago López, an agricultural engineer who has always been connected to the rural environment of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, knows his vineyards better than anyone else and that is why in 1994 he dared to go one step further and make his own wines with the aim of ensuring consistency in his wines and strict quality control. Settling on the old family estate in the municipality of Roa de Duero (Burgos) and renovating it in an original and cozy way, Bodegas López Cristóbal is the result of the joining together of two surnames (López on Santiago’s side and Cristóbal on his wife Lola’s side). Later, his son Galo also joined the project.
Their López Cristóbal Albillo white wine is a single-variety Albillo grape from old vines aged over 50 years old planted in calcareous-loamy soil and at an altitude of 770 metres above sea level. These are old vines cultivated in the traditional way and harvested by hand in fruit crates and immediately taken to the winery. There, the grapes pass over a selection table, are destemmed and gently pressed. The resulting must is fermented in new barrels and remains on the lees for 3 months. Finally, it is bottled and remains in the winery for 6 months.
In an increasingly standardised market, López Cristóbal Albillo is a white wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero that makes a name for itself. A limited production that beautifully showcases the Albillo grape with its own personality and character.
2020 | López Cristóbal Albillo 2020 is a creamy white wine with aromas of white fruit, citrus notes and toasted touches. On the palate it is fresh, elegant and balanced. A serious wine with noticeable acidity and a long and persistent finish. |
