About Le Clarence de Haut-Brion

On his return journey to the U.S., a young New Yorker found himself at a crossroads, faced with a decision of the utmost urgency. A telegram informed him of the opportunity to acquire the historic Château Haut-Brion; he had to act swiftly! From aboard the ship itself, he issued the command. He was the banker Clarence Dillon, and with this decisive action, he ushered in a new era for this ancient estate. Everything that Château Haut-Brion represents today can be attributed to him. His achievements do not end there; during World War II, Dillon transformed the Château into a hospital to care for wounded French soldiers. For this, and a hundred other reasons—such as modernizing the winery—a wine is now dedicated to him: Le Clarence de Haut-Brion

Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is not just a tribute to Dillon. It is also a celebration of exquisite taste! If you were in search of a red wine that makes a lasting impression, we're pleased to inform you that you've come to the right place. Le Clarence de Haut-Brion will not leave you indifferent. What can we say about this wine? How could we possibly convey its entire essence? There is so much to tell... Perhaps it's most sensible to start at the beginning, by noting that it is a red wine (the second wine of this estate) crafted from merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon. Each grape variety has its own distinct personality. Each one presents a different wine that must be understood and appreciated to achieve the perfect blend. At Château Haut-Brion, this moment has become a ritual, encapsulating in this decision—always made by the technical team—the entirety of the year's work, including the cultivation.

In the vineyard, where it all begins, maintaining the natural balance of the ecosystem is of paramount importance. Thus, for Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, sustainable farming practices are always employed. Nothing is allowed to compromise the gravel and sand soils that predominate on this terrace bordered by hills and streams. These small pebbles, of various types of quartz, rest upon another layer of sand and limestone (formed from marine shells) that create the perfect combination: while the top layer of gravel is an excellent water drainer, the underlying clays act as a sponge, creating water reserves that enable the vines to withstand periods of drought. Indeed! The vineyard will have to exert itself by extending its roots deep into the ground.

Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is a magnificent wine. Now you too can be part of this story—just a glass of wine away, or a click on the shopping cart—do not hesitate to become part of this legacy.
