La Salada La Filla de Maçaners 2021 is a juicy red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit accompanied by floral notes and earthy touches. The palate is rustic, deep and fresh. A wine with dusty tannins, marked acidity and a touch of volatility that gives it a wild side. Only 300 bottles have been produced.

About La Salada La Filla de Maçaners

Toni Carbó is a free spirit. And it shows in everything he does. In addition to working for a long time hand in hand with his partner Ramón Jané at Mas Candí, he is starting a new personal project at his family home, aiming to champion the rural heritage of Catalan farmers. He makes his wines under the name La Salada, and although they are not the most technically perfect, they are certainly among the most energetic, bright and cheerful wines currently made in the Penedès. As Andrew Yandell, manager of the prestigious San Francisco-based wine distributor Trumpet Wine explains, “Toni Carbó consistently translates his earthy charm into some of Spain’s most exciting and expressive natural wines.”

His La Salada La Filla de Maçaners is a single-variety Sumoll, a native variety that has been in danger of extinction. An estate wine made as a tribute to an old vineyard called “Els Maçaners” that they can no longer cultivate but they did manage to take some cuttings to produce ‘La Filla del Maçaners’. All vines are tended by hand, using biodynamic practices and no-till cultivation. In the winery, the fruit is vinified in whole clusters, foot-pressed and fermented for 2 weeks in open amphorae with native yeasts. The wine is then pressed and aged in closed amphorae for 8 months.

With a radical style that carves its own path, La Salada La Filla de Maçaners is an aged version of one of the oldest varieties of the Penedès. A rustic, wild and concentrated Sumoll that doesn’t go unnoticed.
