About Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet

Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet is a monovarietal Chardonnay white wine from the AOC Puligny-Montrachet produced by Joseph Drouhin.

Joseph Drouhin is a winery founded in 1880 and located in Beaune. It cultivates 78 hectares of vineyards located in various sub-areas of Burgundy: in Côte de Nuits, Chablis, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. It also buys grapes and must from local producers to produce some of his references. For years the winery has been practicing organic farming because it understands that listening and respecting its vineyards and nature is essential for producing great wines.

The vineyards for Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet lie in Puligny-Montrachet, one of the municipalities in the area known asCôte des Blancs. Its soils are limestone, with small pebbles and a mixture of ochre earth. The density of plantation is about 10,000 plants per hectare, and the vines are pruned in Guyot style and produce an average of 51 hl/ha.

The Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet harvest is gently pressed directly upon arrival in the cellar. After that it is racked to leave the must clean, and then fermented in French oak barrels, 25 % of which are new. No commercial yeasts or enzymes are used for either racking or fermenting. The final wine is aged for 12 months in barrels.

2016 Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet 2016 is a wine with aromas of flowers and white pulp fruit. As it ages the aromas evolve towards almonds and slightly roasted nuts. It is a lingering and persistent wine, rich in both fruity and floral flavours.
