Tasting notes Castell d'Encús Jhana 2020

Rosé wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 12 months in French oak barrels used.

Castell d'Encús Jhana 2020 is a pale, almost translucent rosé wine that captivates with its character. On the nose, it reveals herbal notes and a hint of spice, complemented by aromas of strawberries and raspberries. Its time in the barrel imparts a subtle complexity, although the wood does not dominate its profile. With balanced acidity, this dry rosé presents itself as an unusual choice with ageing potential, leaning more towards the essence of a white wine.

About Castell d'Encús Jhana

Castell d'Encús Jhana is a rosé wine crafted by the winery Castell d'Encús in Talarn (Lleida), within the D.O. Costers del Segre appellation.

Castell d'Encús is the personal endeavour of Raül Bobet. Situated in the Pyrenean area of Pallars Jussà (Lleida) in a mountainous region at an altitude of 800 to 1000 metres, the estate features a chapel and 12th-century stone vats from Castell d'Encús, which are used for the production of some of its wines. The orientation is predominantly South-West with good protection from the cold northern winds.

Raül Bobet adheres to a sincere philosophy, centred on meticulous vineyard care, passion, utmost dedication, and respect for nature. He refrains from using any herbicides or pesticides in his farming practices. His aim is to produce a limited number of bottles exclusively from the fruit of his vineyards.

Castell d'Encús Jhana is a rosé wine made from merlot and petit verdot grapes sourced from estate-owned vineyards located at approximately 1000 metres altitude.

The harvest is conducted manually in small 10kg boxes. Once at the winery, the grapes are vinified in small 8 Hl tanks, with a brief maceration at low temperature. After fermentation, the wine undergoes ageing for several months in used French oak barrels.

The name Castell d'Encús Jhana alludes to a form of meditation and evokes the tranquillity of the natural surroundings of the Pallars region.

2019

Jhana 2019 is a pale rosé wine with a subtly full-bodied character. On the nose, it reveals aromas of fresh strawberries and ripe peach, complemented by a hint of vanilla due to its barrel aging. On the palate, it is concentrated and balanced, with a smooth texture and a lingering finish. Perfect for those seeking a rosé with greater depth and complexity.

2017 Jhana 2017 is a vibrant and delicate rosé wine. First vintage of this wine that elegantly shows us all its fragrance of fresh red fruit and wild berries. In the mouth, it is very pleasant, glyceric and very fresh. Good ageing potential in the bottle.
