About Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo
“The wine must be the perfect imitation of its Terroir”. This has been the focus of the Rosso family, who have been making wines in northern Italy for more than 100 years. From their winery in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Langhe region (in Piedmont), their wines have become the best ambassadors of northern Italy.
Most of their production uses the Nebbiolo grape, the most widely used native variety in this area, accepted in most of the official denominations, like the D.O.C. Langhe Nebbiolo. The Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo red wine comes under this umbrella.
Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo is made by the Giovanni Rosso winery, which is currently under the management of Davide, the latest generation of the family, who owns a total of 10 hectares of vineyards spread over Serralunga d'Alba (considered the great Barolo terroir). Over time these properties have been growing, and are now unique. These are very special plots cultivated in a completely respectful way (since 2006 no chemical products have been used on it). The grapes are harvested in mid-October. This harvest date is mainly due to the fact that the grapes ripen a little later, because of the clay-loam soils (very humid) and the mild climate, with morning fogs.
Once in the winery, the Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo grapes are processed and, after being destemmed and crushed, they are transferred to concrete tanks to ferment for 15 days. During this time, pump-overs and délestages (right in the middle of the process) are carried out in order to extract colour and aromas and increase the working period of the yeasts. Once finished, Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo will be transferred to 50 Hl French oak barrels where it will be aged for 12 months. The juiciest and most elegant version of the Italian Piedmont.
