Gérard Schueller Edelzwicker is an aromatic white wine with fragrances of white flowers, citrus notes and herbal hints. On the palate it is fresh, light and very mineral. A wine with marked acidity, a pleasant texture and a subtly saline finish.
We live in such a productivity-oriented society that doing nothing is a challenge. Niksen, or the art of doing nothing, is a movement that started in Holland and encourages pausing in the face of problems. And this is where the magic of not intervening lies, in fleeing from the culture of always doing something so that everything can happen naturally. Applying this same principle to viticulture, there is a movement towards minimal intervention, where winegrowers observe their vines without intervening in their growth and also let the wine take its natural course in the winery. In Alsace, this way of working is used by Bruno Schueller. A daring winegrower who, when he took over the family estate in the village of Husseren-les-Châteaux, southwest of Colmar (Alsace), made it his priority to respect the terroir, the vine and the grapes in the most natural way. The result is impressive because, although Bruno’s wines rarely match what is commonly called “Alsace wine” and don’t always gain INAO approval, each of his vintages is distinct and truly unique.
Among the 40 cuvées that Bruno makes each year, Gérard Schueller Edelzwicker is an explosive wine made from various native white varieties like Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Gewurtz and Pinot Gris. These vines grow on calcareous soils and are organically and biodynamically cultivated so as not to damage the natural balance of the terroir. In the winery, the whole grapes are gently pressed and then fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. It then rests on its lees and is bottled unfiltered, unclarified and without the addition of sulphites.
Gérard Schueller Edelzwicker is a delicious and fresh natural white wine, perfect for when you’re thirsty. A surprising combination of native white varieties with great personality and deep minerality.
