About Heretat Mont Rubí Gaintus Vertical
Gaintus Vertical is a red wine made by the Heretat Mont Rubí winery, located in the town of Font-Rubí to the north of the D.O. Penedès, more than 500 metres above sea level.
In 2000, they started a project to restore the Sumoll grape variety, an old widespread variety in Catalonia, which was disappearing due to its delicacy and difficulty in cultivating it. Gaintus was the first single-variety Sumoll wine in the world.
The philosophy of the winery is to support traditional and sustainable viticulture that is respectful of the environment. They also seek balance between the grape strains and the environment, and incorporate the latest technologies at the same time.
Gaintus Vertical is a 100% Sumoll wine. It is harvested manually, and passes over a selection table as soon as it arrives in the winery. It begins being vinified with a cold pre-maceration, then ferments for 45 days with maceration and gentle pigeage. After being aged for 14 months in new French oak barrels, it rests for a minimum of 24 months in the bottle before being released to the market.
The Sumoll variety is absolutely well-defined in this intense and expressive wine. Notes of ripe fruits fuse perfectly with the minerality and roasted hints, with a freshness that lends it harmony and roundness.
2017 | Gaintus Vertical 2017 is a richly concentrated red wine, boasting a deep ruby hue. On the nose, it unfolds a complex array of aromas, featuring cherry nuances and balsamic overtones. The palate reveals a spicy and ripe profile, exceptionally supple, supported by a robust acidity and a mineral-laden finish. |
