About Frau Ehrhard Natürlich
Weingut Carl Ehrhard, a family winery founded 150 years ago on the slopes of the Rüdeshelmer mountain in Rheingau (Germany), is currently run by the fifth generation, Carl Ehrhard and his wife Petra. For this couple, the ups and downs of life led them to stop and consider where they were going in a calmer way. In their winemaking, they fuse tradition with innovation. Their dedication to this has turned their winery into a new generation winemaking project that creates dry wines with classic varieties that grow in the 9 hectares of exceptional vineyards.
An example of the results of their new philosophy of respectful work is Frau Ehrhard Natürlich, an orange wine made from 50-year-old organically cultivated vineyards, without herbicides or pesticides, in one of the most powerful soils for growing the Riesling variety. Once the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand and extensively selected. In the winery they are destemmed and selected again. The grapes then undergo 2 months of maceration in a basket press and then ferment spontaneously in whole bunches and remain on their lees for 18 months in wooden, concrete and earthenware vats. Finally the wine is bottled without being filtered.
Ultra complex, beautiful and rather funky, Frau Ehrhard Natürlich is quite the lady as the bottle label shows. A drawing of a very elegant model that honours Petra, who was a fashion designer before getting into the world of wine.
2019 |
Frau Ehrhard Natürlich 2019 is an orange wine sculpted with aromas of tropical fruit, almond nuances, and hints of tea leaves, orange peel, and potpourri. On the palate, it is spicy, vibrant, and crisp. A wine characterised by pronounced citric acidity, a sumptuous texture, and an earthy aftertaste. Best savoured in a large glass. |
