About Francesco Marra Negroamaro
If there is one thing Francesco Marra and his wife Maurizia are clear about, it is their love for nature and natural wines. Together and alongside their adorable dog Vituccio, they stroll among olive trees, grains and vineyards on their 70 hectares located between the municipalities of Casarano and Ugento, in the southernmost part of Salento, just 10 kilometres from the Ionian Sea. A family that respects and cares for the environment with devotion to create pure wines, the direct fruit of the vine. And although Salerno, the heel of Italy, does not enjoy the same fame as other prestigious wine regions in the country, the truth is that in recent times projects as interesting as this one are giving people plenty to talk about among those with an interest in minimal intervention.
A faithful interpretation of where it comes from, Francesco Marra Negroamaro is a red wine made with grapes of the native Negroamaro variety from 50-year-old vines grown in red soils rich in clay, iron and potassium, but poor in organic matter. The grapes are organically cultivated and harvested by hand in boxes. Once in the winery, the grapes are destemmed without pressing and ferment spontaneously in 15 hl oak vats. Unclarified and unfiltered, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for 18 months and bottled without added sulphites.
This work has had very exciting results. Francesco Marra Negroamaro is a red wine that, despite its high alcohol content, becomes a refined drink thanks to its lively acidity. All the expressive power of a vine in the purest natural style.
2020 | Francesco Marra Negroamaro 2020 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe red fruits, red berries and black cherries accompanied by aromatic Mediterranean herbs. The palate is lively, fine and dense. A medium-bodied wine with balanced acidity, balanced tannins and a long, refined finish. |
