About Enate Chardonnay Barrica

What does abstract expressionism have to do with winemaking? At first glance, they might seem unrelated, but if you visit Enate, the winery established in 1991 in Salas Altas, in Huesca (Spain), you'll discover how art and wine intertwine in a unique manner. It all began when Antonio Saura, one of the most influential artists in contemporary Spanish art, designed the label for one of their wines, Enate Chardonnay Barrica, by merging two of his favourite paintings. In this collaboration, Saura combined the grape cluster, depicted with seven berries, and the graphic design of Enate, creating a piece that reflected his personal vision and passion for art. Since then, the relationship between art and wine at Enate not only endured but deepened, collaborating with renowned artists to design their labels and turning each bottle into a work of art.

Enate Chardonnay Barrica is a white wine of distinguished character. Crafted from Chardonnay grapes from the winery's own vineyards, situated on limestone soils of the DO. Somontano, with a climate ideal for this grape variety: cold winters and hot summers. The harvest is conducted at night and, once selected and destemmed at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, with residues removed through a static settling process at 8°C. Subsequently, it ferments in new French oak barrels, where it remains for less than a year, undergoing batonnage every 15 days. This process imparts a creamy and structured touch to the wine. Finally, before bottling, the wine is clarified, stabilised, and filtered.

As a result, Enate Chardonnay Barrica is a creation with character and allure. A wine that, like art, leaves an impression and does not go unnoticed. Indeed, when there is personality, there is no need to seek attention: it is earned naturally.

Enate Chardonnay Barrica 2019 Outlet is a robust white wine. Olfactorily, it is intricate, exuding fruity aromas (pineapple and grapefruit) layered upon a woody backdrop, complemented by nuances of nuts, toasted bread, and smoky hints. Enate Barrel Chardonnay 2018 is a creamy, lush and elegant wine. It is unique because of a perfect melange between varietal, mature white fruit and tropical fruit aromas, and the toasted and nutty notes added by its aging. Very dense in the mouth. A white wine with a red character.

2009 Good, oily and bulky attack and an unctuous and creamy mid palate which is noticed all along the evolution of this Spanish wine with very light and fresh acidity. Very long and persistent finish. Toasted and fruity notes reappear perfectly blended in the retronasal aromas.

Intense straw yellow colour with light golden reflections. Clean and bright wine with thin tears.

Complex initial powerness. As the wine opens up, the floral varietal notes are released along with citrus and ripe tropical fruit that give way to toasted notes, hints of bakery, butter and vanilla with a smoky and mineral background.
