About Dominio de Atauta La Roza

There are remarkable wine regions across the globe, each with its distinct grape varieties, wine styles, and unique characteristics that make them stand out and appeal to oenophiles. In the case of Dominio de Atauta, a winery situated in the province of Soria, in the eastern part of the Ribera del Duero region (Spain), it derives its name from a small eponymous wine valley renowned for its high-quality wine production. This area is distinguished by a diversity of soils, orientations, and altitudes, offering exceptional wines from its landscapes.

Among its esteemed creations, Dominio de Atauta La Roza is a red wine made from 100% Tinto Fino grapes sourced from a site named “Las Rozas,” where the winery has committed to restoring 689 vines that are 165 years old. Spread over 0.24 ha divided into three plots, the soil composition includes sand, clay, and limestone. Here, organic farming practices are employed alongside techniques preserved in the valley for over five centuries. The harvest is manual, using 11 kg boxes, and in the winery, a second selection of bunches and berries is conducted. Vinification is carried out by individual plots with a cold maceration in 1,000-litre stainless steel tanks for seven days and two pump-overs per day. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging for 18 months in second-use French oak barrels.

With the finesse, concentration, and expression of a unique small terroir, Dominio de Atauta La Roza is a grand vin of extremely limited production. Less than 400 numbered bottles are released, each embodying an extraordinary elegance.

2017 Dominio de Atauta La Roza 2017 unfolds a symphony of refined flavours and remarkable complexity. On the nose, it evokes memories of ripe raspberries and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, its silky texture reveals a concentrated character, with fine tannins and a refreshing acidity that intertwine seamlessly. The finish is long, dry, and imbued with a distinctive minerality that sets it apart. This vintage offers a special rarity, as the frosts of 2017 did not affect its growth due to the cooler climate and the slow development of the vines.
