About Domaine de la Sénéchalière Coeur de Raisin
Marc Pesnot is one of the few winemakers in the Muscadet area who produces 100% natural wine. Considering that this denomination is one of the most restrictive in France, which prohibits malolactic fermentation and has a minimum yield that is quite high, this winemaker in the city of Nantes usually makes his own wines under the Vin de France label. And the truth is that he has done pretty well. His wines are a target for export, especially to Japan. 80% of them are already sold by the time they are released. This test confirms that the secret to success is not determined by imposed rules, but by listening to your heart.
At his Domaine de la Sénéchalière winery, Marc has a very unique approach to winemaking. Holding to even stricter conditions than those used in organic and biodynamic agriculture, he tells us that “we pick the grapes and transform them naturally into wine: it’s as simple as that.” For this, the key to success lies in picking the perfect grape without any defects, even if that means a much lower yield. His Cœur de Raisin wine is a cuvée made from young Melon de Bourgogne vines. These vines are planted in a shale terroir and cultivated with biodynamic care using copper, oils and herbal teas. Once the grapes are ripe, they are harvested by hand and taken directly to the winery. The grapes are pressed manually at very low pressure for 12-18 hours in order to obtain the purest aromas of the grapes, hence the name “grape heart” and the resulting must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. After 2 months of resting in stainless steel tanks, the wine is bottled unclarified, unfiltered and with a small addition of sulphur.
With a dominant citrus fruit, Domaine de la Sénéchalière Coeur de Raisin is a playful white wine that escapes any conventionality and expresses itself with wholehearted naturalness.

Domaine de la Sénéchalière Coeur de Raisin 2021 is an aromatic white wine with a citrus nose accompanied by herbal notes and mineral hints. The palate is lively, tense and very refreshing. Due to the very low level of sulphur (less than 20 mg per litre), a little carbon dioxide can be seen when it is opened. We would recommend decanting the wine for a while before drinking it. |
