About Dievole Vigna di Sessina Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Macigno soil, also known as macigno sandstone, is a type of soil commonly found in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is characterised as a sedimentary rock composed mainly of fragments of sand, silt and clay. Known for its ability to retain heat and drain water well, this soil contributes very positively to the maturity and concentration of the grapes, especially of varieties like Sangiovese, qualities that contribute to creating red wines with good body, structure and complexity. It is from this unique terroir that Dievole, one of Italy’s oldest wineries, produces Dievole Vigna di Sessina Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. A Chianti Classico that offers a deep, powerful and flavoursome definition.
Sourced from its most exclusive “Vigna di Sessina” vineyard, Dievole Vigna di Sessina Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is made from the best Sangiovese grapes grown in this terroir that is rich in fossils of the characteristic Tuscan sandstone (macigno). Sangiovese vines are cultivated entirely organically and respectful practices are used to keep biodiversity intact. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually and taken straight to the winery. There, the grapes are sorted and destemmed and fermentation begins with native yeasts at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 17 months in oak barrels before being bottled.
Thanks to a divine soil and expert care, Dievole Vigna di Sessina Chianti Classico Gran Selezione enjoys a unique elegance and freshness. A Chianti Classico that will transport you to Tuscany with its aromas and to heaven with its flavours.
