About Codorníu Gran Plus Ultra Chardonnay

In ancient maps, the Strait of Gibraltar was marked with the phrase "Non Plus Ultra" ("No further beyond"), indicating the end of the known world. However, with the advent of the Age of Discovery, that "Non" was erased, giving way to "Plus Ultra": a symbol of ambition, progress, and the desire to go beyond limits. In keeping with this spirit, Codorníu, one of Spain's most iconic and oldest wineries and a global benchmark in the production of cava in Penedès (Catalonia), has crafted a collection of cavas that challenge convention.

Codorníu Gran Plus Ultra Chardonnay is a cava derived from chardonnay vines located in Costers del Segre (Catalonia), an area of the D.O. Cava with a distinct continental climate. After the harvest, the grapes undergo destemming and pressing in the winery, and the resulting must ferments in contact with oak at a temperature of 15-17°C for 12-15 days. Following the blending of the different base wines, it is bottled along with the tirage liqueur and undergoes a second fermentation followed by an ageing period in contact with the lees for a minimum of 18 months. Finally, disgorgement and dosage are carried out.

Thus, Codorníu Gran Plus Ultra Chardonnay is the first cava in Spain made with the prestigious chardonnay variety, elevating cava to new heights and celebrating innovation and the breaking of barriers.
