About Cigliuti Campass Barbera d'Alba
When Renato Cigliuti set up his own winery and began to see success with his high quality Barbarescos and Barberas, he didn’t think of expanding the winery, assuming that his daughters wouldn’t continue the legacy. But surprisingly, both Claudia and Silvia Cigliuti have inherited their father’s passion for the land and, under the supervision of the 80-year-old patriarch, are in charge of producing the new vintages. Bearing in mind that 90% of the winemaking process takes place in the vineyard and that work in the winery is kept to a minimum, they achieve original wines that perfectly reflect the characteristics of a vintage and the identity of a terroir.
Their Cigliuti Campass Barbera d'Alba wine is a single-variety Barbera made from a single vineyard called Campas located in the Serraboella cru. This is a 30 year old vineyard on clay soils, lying 350 metres above sea level facing southeast. In the winery, the selected grapes ferment and macerate for 8 to 12 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in a combination of new, second and third use barrels for 18 months before bottling.
With an approximate production of only 330 cases per year, Cigliuti Campass Barbera d'Alba is a deep, dense and beautifully layered DOC Barbera d'Alba wine. A red whose secret is hidden behind the quality of the best grapes from the Langhe and which explains why it is one of the most wonderful wine regions in the world.
2019 |
Cigliuti Campass Barbera d'Alba 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe blueberries, spicy notes and hints of lavender, mocha and liquorice. On the palate it is deep, dense and elegant. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity and silky tannins. The finish is lingering and persistent. |
