About Château Pesquié Terrasses Blanc

Mont Ventoux, one of the most legendary stages of the Tour de France, can be seen from many parts of Provence both because of its white colour, due to the mountain’s calcareous composition, and because of its enormous height of almost 2000 metres. An authentic desert landscape due to the wild winds it endures, as the name suggests (ventoux means ‘windy’ in French), which makes it one of the most feared stages for cyclists. But although it is one of the leading figures in the most important and prestigious cycling races in the world, because of its conditions it is also responsible for the production of wines with their own style within the AOC Ventoux. Unique terroirs that enjoy a very cool microclimate and provide very fruity wines characterised by a skilful balance between freshness and elegance. One of the wineries that has worked hardest to build the reputation of these southern Rhône Valley wines is undoubtedly Château Pesquié. A family winemaking company that for three generations has managed to take advantage of the ups and downs offered by the hills and valleys of the Ventoux region with the construction of terraces. Hence the name of their most prized white wine, Château Pesquié Terrasses Blanc.

With 100 hectares of vineyards in the capable hands of Fred and Alex Chaudière, the current owners of Château Pesquié, they carefully create different cuvées to capture the essence of the region. Château Pesquié Terrasses Blanc is made from a selection of Viognier, Roussanne, Clairette and Grenache Blanc grapes planted on nutrient-poor limestone soil at an altitude of approximately 350 metres. Only organic treatments and compost are used in the vineyard and weed control is done by removing the soil. Due to a cooler microclimate than the vineyards near the Rhône, ripening is slower and longer and, once optimum ripeness is reached, the grapes are harvested by hand. In the winery, the grapes undergo a short maceration at low temperature and fermentation takes 15 days in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. The wine then remains on the lees and does not undergo malolactic fermentation to maintain its freshness.

Château Pesquié Terrasses Blanc is the result of a good terroir, old vines and organic agriculture. A fresh, light and ethereal white wine that represents the best of the “giant of Provence”.
