About Château Pape Clément

Château Pape Clément is a barrel-aged red wine made from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties by Château Pape Clément in the AOC Pessac-Léognan (France).

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest wineries in Bordeaux with harvests dating back to 1252. But it took on its current name when owner Bertrand de Goth was named Pope Clément V. After centuries of being passed from owner to owner, in 1980 it was taken on by Bernard Magrez, an entrepreneur who, captivated by the quality of the vineyards, began combining the best traditions with the latest innovations in winemaking. As a result, he creates exceptional wines with a great international reputation.

Château Pape Clément manages 63 hectares with gravel, sand, clay, limestone and iron-rich soils in the heart of Bordeaux. These are Grand Cru vineyards cultivated following the parameters of sustainable viticulture. Practices like letting the spontaneous cover grow, working the rows alternately and leaving very narrow planting frames force the plants to work to find water and nutrients, which results in exceptional fruit. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.

Château Pape Clément comes from different plots, which are vinified separately in different deposits. Once the grapes have been destemmed and crushed, a low temperature pre-fermentation maceration is carried out. After 30-40 days of fermentation it is poured directly into French oak barrels and allowed to age for 18 months.

Château Pape Clément is a chance to enjoy the elegance and intensity of a Bordeaux Grand Cru at a very accessible price.

Château Pape Clément 2018 is a concentrated and sophisticated red wine. The bouquet is refined, exuding scents of blackcurrant, blackberry, black tea, smoked earth, and spice bread. On the palate, it is forthright with fine, robust tannins. The texture is rounded and velvety. The wine is creamy with well-integrated oak nuances, and it boasts flavors of ripe fruit.
2017 Château Pape Clément is a concentrated red wine with aromas of black fruits like cherries, black raspberries and blackberries with floral notes of lilac and spicy and smoky touches. On the palate it is firm, full-bodied and meaty. Black fruit flavours with a wonderful freshness that brings elegance and intensity.
