Château Montrose is a coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged in wood and made by Château Montrose in the French denomination AOC Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux.
Château Montrose was founded in 1815 and since 1855 it has been classified as 2º Grand Cru Classé, the highest classification for wines made in the AOC Saint-Estèphe. It is currently run by the Bouygues brothers who have contributed to making it one of the most important wineries in this Controlled Appellation of Origin in Bordeaux.
Château Montrose comes from a 95 hectare vineyard located very close to the Gironde estuary. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and there is a rigorous parcelling process to achieve maximum control of the grape. Once the best plots have been selected, the bunches are harvested by hand.
Château Montrose is vinified separately in batches of selected grapes in different tanks of different sizes. The grapes are pressed and the must macerates with skins and is fermented at a controlled temperature. Then the wine ages in oak barrels for 18 months.
Made through a strict selection of parcels, Château Montrose is the prize wine from one of the most prestigious wineries in the AOC Saint-Estèphe. A grand vin with the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé.
