About Château La Conseillante
Many families have a coat of arms associated with their surname. These are coats of arms featuring weapons, animals, plants, buildings or letters. Medieval decorative pieces that are actually an evolution of the coats of arms that had identified knights on the battlefield since the 12th century in much of Europe. These symbols linked to their surnames made them memorable and so soon the nobles of the time took up the practice. That meant each wealthy family created one, representing the values associated with their surname. Imitating this medieval tradition, in 1871 the Nicolas brothers, owners of Château La Conseillante, created a label design including a shield with a silver border around the letter ‘N’. A symbol that identifies its wines and that has been upheld with the same elegance for five generations so far. A member of the “Union des Grands Crus” and the “Bordeaux Wine Academy”, this estate in the heart of the best Pomerol terroir stands out for guaranteeing the utmost excellence vintage after vintage. This is clear to see in their wine of the same name: Château La Conseillante.
Named after the influential figure who ran the estate almost 300 years ago: Catherine Conseillanes, Château La Conseillante comes from a 12-hectare vineyard located on the right bank of Bordeaux where the Merlot variety is predominant, with a touch of Cabernet Franc. Divided into 18 micro-plots of clay soils and sandy loams, vines with an average age of 35 years are closely monitored. In the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed and crushed to begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months to finish rounding out.
As a result, year after year, the Nicolas family, honouring their coat of arms, produces one of the greatest red wines of Pomerol. With impressive complexity, maturity and depth, Château La Conseillante is a legend to be enjoyed for the next 25 to 30 years. As Parker himself puts it, “the quintessence of Pomerol’s elegant style”.
2023 | Château La Conseillante 2023 is a subtly mature and slightly full-bodied red wine. On the nose, it surprises with floral aromas of violets and lilacs, accompanied by notes of fresh raspberries, exotic spices, candied orange, pipe tobacco, and rose petals. On the palate, it presents a medium to broad body, supple and fleshy. Its initial texture gives way to layers of pure and vibrant fruit, framed by sweet tannins, culminating in a long and precise finish. |
