About Cayuse En Cerise Syrah

Cayuse En Cerise Syrah is a biodynamic, barrel-aged red wine made with the Syrah variety by Cayuse Vineyards in Walla Walla Valley, Washington (USA).

Cayuse Vineyards is run by Christophe Baron, a young winegrower of French origin who discovered the stony terroirs in the Walla Walla Valley, Washington, and their similarity with those in the French region of Chateauneuf du Pape, and so decided to make wonderful French-style wines.

Cayuse En Cerise Syrah comes from a vineyard where cherry trees had previously been planted. Hence its name, which means “cherry”. The vineyard has a total of 4 hectares of vines planted in 1998 on stony soils and cultivated without using chemical products. The first biodynamic winery in Washington, the land, plants and animals live all together as a closed ecosystem and sustain themselves.

The harvest is carried out following the astronomical calendar and the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Once the best grapes have been selected, Cayuse En Cerise Syrah ferments with native yeasts at a controlled temperature and then slowly ages in wooden barrels.

As the first winery to use biodynamic agriculture in the Walla Walla Valley, Cayuse En Cerise Syrah is a very limited production wine that clearly displays the purest expression of the area’s stony terroirs.

2017 Cayuse En Cerise Syrah 2017 is a concentrated red wine with deep aromas of black cherries, spicy notes of smoked pepper and mineral touches of crushed rock. On the palate it is firm with youthful tannins. A tasty, full-bodied, expressive wine with a long and sinuous finish. Only 393 cases have been produced and they will age well in the bottle for the next 18 years.
